I'm very happy to be finished with this study of a lily plant. It was my first time using SpeedTree for a plant like that, and the software made the process really fun and easy. I created the prototype using photos I took of the lily plant as both reference and basis for texture, which I find is a great way to work with foliage. It allows for fast creating of the first stage model, which is then close to the final result right off the bat.
Once happy with the prototype I jumped into Zbrush and Substance 3D painter to create high poly and bake proper textures, still using the photos I took in that process. This allowed me to create accurate sculpt and textures. The most fun part at this stage was actually buying a lily flower and grabbing a petal to take a picture against the sun to extract the translucency map from it later :)
I used Blender and Photoshop for some final tweaks, and Marmoset Toolbag for rendering.
The model is around 17 000 tris, which in my eyes makes it real time, but not really game ready. Since it's a personal project, I was fine with being generous with the polycount.
Hope you enjoy this project!
